Wood
The urns are crafted from a single piece of wood. Robert uses hardwoods native to the Smoky Mountains, such as black walnut, maple, cherry, or poplar. The maple logs in the photo to the left show the first stage of crafting these urns. The process of turning the wood on the lathe and using tools to shape the urn brings out the natural beauty in the wood. The urn you purchase will be slightly different from the picture on this site because of variations in wood type, color, and grain. You can be assured of receiving a finely crafted product similar to the image. Natural occurrences in the wood such as small markings, spalting, small fissures (that would not effect the functionality or longevity of the product) enhance the beauty of the finished product.
Availability
Since these urns are handmade, your item may not be available to ship immediately when ordered. You are welcome to contact us for an estimated time frame.
Finish
Urns are sealed with the most advanced polyurethanes, enhancing their durability and preserving their natural finish. If you prefer an oiled finish for a completely natural product, you must specify at the time of the order (unless the urn will be buried, this option is not recommended).
Lids
The lids fit snugly, but if you wish to seal the urn, simply apply a bead of silicone where the lid meets the body of the urn.
